Leaving Behind a Living Legacy

Bradley Mattes   |   December 31, 2014

My dad turns eighty this fall and it got me thinking about his legacy.  Then I read about Leandra who at one-hundred-twenty-seven is the oldest living person on earth.  Leandra lives in Mexico and credits her longevity in part to chocolate and sleeping for days on end.  She retired just two years ago, but her mind remains sharp.  The former seamstress has experienced the death of all five of her children and several grandchildren.  Leandra has over seventy great-grandchildren and over fifty great-great-grandchildren.  She loves to pass along to her grandchildren the old songs she learned as a child.  This woman has built a living legacy of extended family that’s probably unmatched in modern history.  I imagine there’ll be scores of generations who sing her praises long after she’s gone from this world.
