Doctor Rosario Chua is the medical director of the NICU at Franciscan Health in Lafayette, Indiana. And she’ll never forget the day she welcomed their newest nurse to the NICU. Her name is Megan Milakis who herself was a premature baby and needed the expert care of Doctor Chua years earlier. Dr. Chua hugged Megan and thought, “My goodness, my baby from 23 years ago is working alongside me.” She remembers Megan well because she needed a specialized ventilator that Megan’s grandfather helped raise funds to purchase. Megan’s presence is an added comfort and encouragement for parents with critically ill children. When they see how well things turned out for her, they realize that there’s hope for their children to have a normal life.
