What Three Billion Dollars Bought

Bradley Mattes   |   July 19, 2019

Fifteen years ago, liberal elites and Hollywood persuaded Californians to support a ballot initiative that borrowed three-billion dollars to fund embryonic stem cell research.  President Bush had cut off federal funding for such research because human embryos were being killed in the process.  What did three billion dollars fund?  Pretty much nothing pertaining to embryonic stem cells.  Most all the progress was made with adult stem cells that don’t require the killing of human embryos.  Now, they have expensive buildings and people in them with high salaries, and the money’s running out.  So, they plan to go back to California voters to ask for more next year.  This may be an ignorant strategy, but it would be even more ignorant if the voters said yes.
