Whom to Leave Behind

A teacher at Roberts Middle School in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio got into trouble.  He gave the children an assignment titled “Whom to Leave Behind.”  It made them choose eight people from a list of twelve who’d be able to flee in a space ship because earth would end the following day.  The list included: a person “with a physical disability,” a “clergyman who is against homosexuality” and “a racist armed police officer.”  Parents objected to the indoctrination of their children using biased stereotypes to send a message that some lives were less valuable than others.  The assignment was pulled, but a local councilman had to get involved because he felt the parents were being ignored.  Parents be mindful of what’s going on in your children’s schools.
