#DefundPP: Senate Vote Coming

ve8QAd   |   July 31, 2015

Imagine a young couple seeing the ultrasound and realizing they’re having a son. They call friends and family and shout, “It’s a boy!”

The same thing happens at Planned Parenthood. In the fourth video from the Center for Medical Progress, released yesterday, an abortionist picks through baby body parts in a pie plate as a voice exclaims, “Another boy!”

How much more horror do legislators need to shut Planned Parenthood down? Next week the US Senate will decide if enough is enough.

PP_fallensignTwo days ago the Senate introduced S.1881 to strip taxpayer funding from Planned Parenthood and direct it instead to community health centers and hospitals. This is a great idea and I urge you to tell your senators to vote for it. Do it now—the vote is expected Monday, August 3.

According to the Government Accountability Office, community health centers already see eight times as many patients as Planned Parenthood does. And Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) offer primary and preventive care to everybody, not just women. Planned Parenthood can’t help a child’s sore throat or Grandma’s arthritis, but a community health center can. Plus the centers are required to locate in underserved areas or treat underserved populations. Most of their patients are low income, uninsured or covered by Medicaid. The health centers no doubt could use those half-billion taxpayer dollars Planned Parenthood rakes in every year.

What about access? As of 2013, more than 1,200 FQHCs offered care at 9,170 sites, from full clinics to satellite locations to mobile vans. As of January 30 this year, Planned Parenthood had 666 locations nationwide. And they’re not expanding their reach; they’re consolidating it into massive mega-abortion centers.

And we’ve already reported that even where Planned Parenthood does exist, non-abortion services have been cut by about half and prenatal services by 70 percent. Abortion advocates—even Democrat presidential hopeful Martin O’Malley and Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Burwell—defend Planned Parenthood’s services, specifically saying they “do mammograms.” In fact, Planned Parenthood doesn’t do mammograms. In their slick pie charts they count manual breast exams—the same exam women can do at home—as breast health service.

The primary function of Planned Parenthood is to abort babies and pick up extra money by selling their dismembered parts. Period.

If I were speaking on the Senate floor, I’d ask, “How much more proof do you need that Planned Parenthood’s concern for ‘women’s health’ is a lie?”

[tweetthis]Insist on a roll call vote. Make senators take a public, recorded stand on S.1881.[/tweetthis]

So push your senators to vote yes on S.1881, and insist on a roll call vote. Make them take a public, recorded stand on the sale of baby body parts.

Here’s an important note: people who get their news from the mainstream media won’t know much about this story. Planned Parenthood hired a high-powered PR firm for spin and damage control, and one of the first things the firm did was tell the media not to cover it. They weren’t covering it much anyway, and the stories they did run bemoaned the “attacks” on Planned Parenthood.

So please share this information with as many people as you can—at work, at your church, in your neighborhood—and demand your local media cover it. If a reporter needs an interview, I’m happy to oblige. Just email me.

God bless your efforts!
