Networking for Life and Hope

We all can remember where we were during traumatic moments in history, for example, the Kennedy assassination or 9/11. One tragic event I will never forget was the day that Terri Schiavo was brutally murdered by dehydration and starvation. It instilled in me a passion to work to protect other individuals like Terri.

That’s why I’m very pleased and profoundly honored to tell you about a wonderful opportunity that I’ll be taking on in addition to my duties with Life Issues Institute.

Recently, I’ve been elected to the Board of Directors for the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network. It’s an amazing organization under the direction of Terri’s loving family who have become very dear friends: her brother Bobby Schindler, sister Suzanne Vitadamo and mother Mary Schindler. Sadly, Terri’s father, Bob, passed away two years ago.

As you may recall, Terri was healthy, except for her profound brain injury. It was for this reason that a death sentence was unjustly imposed on her by a few individuals.

The mission of the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network—formerly the Terri Schindler Schiavo Foundation—is to develop national resources and a support network for the medically-dependent, persons with disabilities, and the incapacitated in or potentially facing life-threatening situations.

Incorporated back in 2001 to fight for Terri’s life, their focus now is to be a central source of help in equipping others—both patients and families—to avoid the tragedy that Terri endured.

This network for life embraces a true meaning of compassion by opposing the practice of euthanasia, a belief that we strongly share here at Life Issues Institute. I know that they’ve been a valuable and comforting resource for many of those—maybe even you—who are looking for answers on this topic.

Protecting the lives of the medically vulnerable and disabled from the threat of euthanasia is an ongoing fight that we must never forget. These individuals desperately need our voices. Please join me in supporting the Terri Schiavo Life and Hope Network by learning more about them here: http://www.terrisfight.org. And please continue to keep Bobby, Suzanne and Mary in your prayers—both as they work to protect the defenseless among us, and as they continue to mourn the loss of Terri, and now Bob.

On behalf of the vulnerable among us,
Bradley Mattes
