Hannah Humes of Mason, Ohio just graduated from high school and this fall she’s headed to Vanderbilt University. She was featured in People magazine as an outstanding member of the class of 2020. Hannah happens to have Down syndrome, but she attended her entire schooling alongside her peers, and college will be no different. More colleges and universities are tailoring education to meet the needs of individuals with intellectual disabilities and that’s a good thing. It’s good for them and their families. It’s also good for the student body because they learn firsthand that these people are a blessing to others. I pray someday seeing students like Hannah on campuses, and as employees in the workplace, will not only be common but expected.
