Leave Me Behind

Never underestimate a parent’s will to protect their child.  During the horrific California wildfires, Feather River hospital in the small town of Paradise was in the path of the flames.  Rachelle Sanders had just delivered her son via c-section but had to evacuate with the other patients.  Staff were sticking them into their own cars.  Rachelle was told to go with David, a stranger.  As their car slowed in gridlock traffic, she said to him, “If it comes down to it, if you have to run, take the baby.  Leave me behind.”  Even though many were forced to abandon their cars and run, thankfully, it never resorted to that for this new mother and her baby.  The town is in ruins, but they escaped unscathed, and Rachelle never learned David’s last name.
