The Guttmacher Institute was originally founded to be the research arm of Planned Parenthood, the most aggressive provider and promoter of abortion throughout pregnancy. Guttmacher released stats that nearly half of the women who had an abortion in 2014 had at least one prior abortion. The data support ongoing evidence abortion continues to be used as a form of birth control. Guttmacher also found women who paid for their own abortions — versus having insurance or financial assistance cover the cost — were less likely to have a previous abortion. This is a good argument against tax funding of abortion. It also supports Texas’ recent legislation to stop insurance companies from including abortion benefits with their policies. Women who have to pay are less likely to abort.
