This week before Father’s Day I’m sharing people’s favorite memories of their dads. Rita says it was the values he taught her. Her mom had Epilepsy and wasn’t allowed to do many household chores. “Daddy worked on the Kansas City Southern Rail Road and would come home late only to tend the garden, fix dinner, bathe us kids and packed our school lunches. On his day off he did the grocery shopping and took the clothes to the laundry mat. He never complained. Mama’s in a nursing facility with severe dementia. My Daddy’s values ingrained in me gave me the strength to care for my Mama and when they advocated for me to ignore her medical wishes by pushing for me to stop giving her food and water.” A dad’s example protected his wife after he was gone.
