Move into Acceptance

Bradley Mattes   |   October 24, 2014

During National Down Syndrome Awareness Month, blogger Meriah Nichols suggests we move beyond awareness and into acceptance.  She says if you’re uncomfortable around a person with Down syndrome, work to move past your comfort zone.  And she gives us some good suggestions.  If able, hire a person with Down syndrome.  Contact a vocational counselor to help match an individual with the job.  Or, you can offer to teach something like photography, sewing or blogging to a person or group of people with Down syndrome.  Finally ask the local Down syndrome organization what ways you can volunteer to be involved.  Nothing chases away the fear of the unknown quicker than to jump in and learn, experience and grow.  I’m certain if God leads you to do this, He’ll greatly bless your efforts.
