Dads are NOT Child Care

Bradley Mattes   |   March 01, 2012

You’’re not going to believe how the US Census Bureau views fatherhood. According to one of its reports called Who’’s Minding the Kids? this government entity considers the mother the “designated parent.” When she’’s working or at school, the bureau wants to know who’’s providing child care. If it’’s daddy, they consider him child care. However, if mom watches the kids while dad’’s at work, it’’s parenting. Last year, about a third of the time dad took care of the kids, according to the government; he was merely a hired hand providing services. Is it any wonder fathers have disengaged from being dads, protecting their children from abortion and providing for their welfare? The Census Bureau and all departments of government must understand dad is a critical member of the family.
