Wanted

Bethany Steele knows she was wanted. Every breath tells her so.

Watching the vibrant 24-year-old, with her sunny smile and southern charm, it’s hard to imagine our meeting almost never happened. That it happened in the company of her birth mother, adoptive parents, and the childhood friends who turned out to be her biological brothers—well, that’s the kind of thing you’d expect to see on TV. So we filmed it!

“I never wondered whether she loved me,” Bethany told us, referring to her birth mom. “I felt like she had to love me to carry me for nine months and then make the selfless decision to place me for adoption so I could have a better home.” It’s a beautiful story of two families united by a loving choice—a story that almost never happened.

We’re sharing Bethany’s journey on Facing Life Head-On this week in tribute to November as National Adoption Month. As various organizations raise awareness about the tens of thousands of US children without homes or families to call their own, the pro-life community can add to that conversation.

Every child is a wanted child, so no mother needs to feel like abortion is her only option. You might think that’s an obvious truth. It’s not. Less than two percent of single women facing unplanned pregnancies chose adoption. Far too many chose abortion. In fact, for each adoption referral Planned Parenthood makes, they kill 134 other babies through abortion. And as with any murder, there’s a motive. Planned Parenthood doesn’t make money off of adoptions. Industry insiders admit their clinics thrive on more women having more abortions, more often.

That’s why November is crucial. With the spotlight already on adoption, we must take this opportunity to say what Planned Parenthood never will: adoption is always a better choice than abortion. Please help us share this important message, so more babies, like Bethany, can grow up knowing they, too, are wanted.
