Life Issues Radio Transcript for January 15, 2010:
Kicked to the Back of the Bus
Most everyone loves dolphins. Even those of us who aren’t so politically correct probably have a soft spot in our hearts for them. But scientists are taking their love for these animals a little too far. They say dolphins are so intelligent, they are considered “cultural” animals and they shouldn’t be killed—period. Thomas White, professor of ethics at Loyola University in Los Angeles, says the high intelligence of dolphins means they are “non-human persons who qualify for moral standing as individuals.”
He means dolphins deserve the same rights as humans—unless you’re an unborn human. Eggs of bald eagles have more protection than human unborn babies. Now, if others get their way,
preborn children will be forced to sit at the back of the human rights bus behind several animal species.
