Life Issues Radio Transcript for January 8, 2010:
UK Slippery Slope of Euthanasia
Have you ever seen the fast-moving slippery slope of euthanasia? Here’s an excellent case in point. Four years ago the United Kingdom passed the Mental Capacity Act with the help of their Prime Minister, Tony Blair. The law meant to allow terminally ill patients the right to decline treatment. So far so good you say? Well, it went bad very quickly. Just two years later, a twenty-something woman swallowed anti-freeze to commit suicide, and left a note for doctors not to treat her. The doctors did nothing to help because of the Mental Capacity Act. An investigation backed up the doctors. The net result has been this Act was used to legalize suicide in just a couple of years.
And the door’s been opened wide for euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide. A slippery slope indeed!
