Life Issues Radio Transcript for January 6, 2010:
Hypocrisy in Academia
If you believe many Universities censor free speech based on the content of that speech, you’d be right. A faculty of the University of Massachusetts invited a terror bomber who served eighteen years in federal prison to give a speech. The university said it was necessary to “respect academic freedom.” Compare this with Sacramento City College. It’s going after, Steve Macias, the student body president, because he didn’t censor a pro-life display on campus showing pictures of aborted babies. Members of the faculty wanted them booted off campus but Steve refused, citing First Amendment rights.
Now college officials are retaliating by trying to get him thrown out as the student body president.
Sadly, it’s not at all unusual for a pro-life or otherwise moral stand to be censored by academia.
