Pro-Life Genetic Discrimination Ban

Once in a while Congress does something right. Both the House and Senate have approved, by wide margins, a bill protecting the genetic information of family members. It prohibits employers and health insurance companies from discriminating against individuals based on the results of genetic testing. A main concern is using genetic tests to diagnose unborn children with physical or mental disabilities. In the case of Down syndrome, eighty percent of parents choose abortion. The law will provide protection against genetic discrimination and cover the families of unborn children, as well as children being adopted. It should help families welcome special needs children into their midst. Once the House and Senate work out minor differences, it’s off to the President’s desk for signature.
