Airbrushing Out Diversity

A Canadian newspaper, the Ottawa Citizen, did a touching article on children with Down syndrome. In it Michael Shaw lamented the only reason he and his wife had a Downs child was the doctor neglected to tell them the results of a prenatal test. If he had, they would’ve certainly aborted the baby. This tears him up now because he realizes he would have missed out on a great blessing in his life, his daughter, Sydney. He said “She has enriched my life to a degree I didn’t think was possible.” Michael believes we are “airbrushing” true diversity out of the fabric of society. In Canada, it’s estimated up to ninety percent of Down syndrome babies are killed in the womb. America's record is equally dismal. All babies are a gift from God.
