Change Needed in Cuba
Fidel Castro made it official. He’s finally out of power in Cuba. This long-time tyrant has passed the dictatorial baton to his brother Raul. Those close to the politics of Cuba highly doubt there’ll be any improvement in human rights under the younger brother. If progress is to be made, watch for the release of Dr. Oscar Biscet. He’s currently jailed in Cuba for protesting abortion. Last November Dr. Biscet received our nation’s highest award, the Presidential Medal of Freedom, from President Bush. Family members accepted on his behalf.
During the award ceremony, President Bush said Biscet has endured repeated harassment, beating and detentions for his pro-life beliefs. We certainly pray for change in Cuba.
The release of Dr. Biscet as a political prisoner would be a step in the right direction.
