Singapore Needs Babies
Singapores prime minister recently announced
that if a parent has more than one child, they will receive a cash
bonus, BBC News reported. Their fertility rate is currently 1.48,
far short of the 2.1 needed to merely replace the current population.
These payments will continue annually until the child is six years
of age and will be the equivalent of $300 U.S. dollars a year, along
with another $600 matching payment for parent contributions. A third
child will rate twice as much in bonuses. Further, mothers with
three children will now be offered paid maternity leave.
