Pro-Abortion Politicians Doing Our Work
You’re probably already
aware of the abortion controversy surrounding the Speaker of
the House Nancy Pelosi, a Democrat from San Francisco. The
whole thing started at Saddleback Church when Senator Barack
Obama was asked at what point during pregnancy should an
unborn baby’s life be protected. During Senator Obama’s
response, he said that determining when human life begins was
above his “pay grade”. His answer will likely be one of the
more memorable moments in this presidential election.
As a follow-up to
Senator Obama’s remarks, Tom Brokaw asked Representative
Pelosi her feelings on the matter. She stated, as an “ardent,
practicing Catholic” her church had not come to terms with
when life begins. She cited St. Augustine who said human life
begins at 3 months. Never mind that his belief was expressed
in the early 400s when so little was known about unborn life.
Thomas Aquinas, a 13th-century Catholic theologian, said that
an unborn male child became human at 40 days, while the unborn
female didn't become human until 80 days. Back then, before
microscopes, that was when the unaided eye could first tell
the sex of the child. Should we assume that such early
“scientific” observations, means Rep. Pelosi also advocates
discrimination against female preborn children? Amazing
ultrasound and other new technologies have given us the
ability to know so much more about the resident within the
womb. We would welcome Senator Obama and Rep. Pelosi to join
the rest of society in the modern world.
Of course their
dark-ages-approach to the basics of human development offends
— and in most cases outrages — the majority of Americans who
get it. And it should. The ignorance of these two politicians
(I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt) is the force behind
promoting a radical, pro-abortion political agenda.
Even though their
comments anger us, we should be thankful for their political
candor. The ensuing controversy and media attention is doing
wonders at educating American voters to where candidates,
elected officials and the political parties stand on the most
important issue of our day.
Abortion has been
catapulted to number one on a list of critical issues debated
during this election. The life or death of future generations
of unborn babies wouldn’t have gotten this much attention,
even if the pro-life movement had spent millions of dollars on
TV, radio and print ads.
Secondly, the swift
reaction of some Catholic Church leaders — although not nearly
enough — has emphasized the importance of holding elected
officials accountable to their professed faith. They were
quick to point out the inability of Rep. Pelosi to be able to
grasp the truth about human development and Catholic doctrine.
Hopefully, this will encourage religious leaders of all faiths
to boldly do the same with other candidates. Think of the
impact this could have! The media attention generated by this
debate is educating countless more Americans to the reality
that life begins at conception and it should be protected.
Barack Obama and Nancy
Pelosi undoubtedly bristle at the very idea they might be
helping promote our pro-life message, but that's a reality
they will have to live with!
Between now and the
election, do all you can to educate yourself and others to
where candidates stand on abortion. Most importantly, VOTE!
Vote like life literally depends upon it, because it does!
Sincerely for babies,
