New
Development on Harriet Miers
Heres a new development
in the confirmation process of Harriet Miers to the US Supreme Court.
Twelve
boxes of documents have been given to the Senate Judiciary Committee. One of those
documents was a 1989 questionnaire from Texans for Life to Harriet Miers. She
was running for the Dallas City Council. One of the questions asked, If
Congress passes a human life amendment to the Constitution that would prohibit
abortion except when it was necessary to prevent the death of the mother, would
you actively support its ratification by the Texas Legislature?" Miss Miers
checked yes to that question, as well as the one asking if she would
oppose the use of tax dollars to fund abortion. Miss Miers won that Council race
and served for two years. She didnt run for reelection because restructuring
of the Council eliminated her at-large seat.
This latest development may
provide comfort to pro-lifers who question her pro-life credentials or outright
oppose her. This new turn of event is far from a guarantee that as a Justice of
the Supreme Court she would vote to correct Roe. However, it is solid evidence
of her position on abortion. Hearings before the Senate Judiciary Committee are
likely to begin the week of November 7.
Ill keep you posted as this
situation develops.
Sincerely,
