So-Called “Compromise” Delays the Inevitable

Life Issues Institute opposes the so-called “compromise” on the President’s judicial nominees. The actions of a few Senators simply delays the inevitable, a Senate showdown on whether a majority of Senators will be able to carry out their constitutionally directed role to vote up or down on nominees by the President.

Pro-abortion Democrat Senators have a long history of engaging in obstructionist behavior at the cost of America’s citizens. “This well-intended minority of Senators should have learned from past experience that this ‘deal’ will likely fail,” said Bradley Mattes, Executive Director of Life Issues Institute. “There is no firm understanding of what ‘under extraordinary circumstances’ means to the confirmation of future qualified nominees. Remember that pro-abortion Democrat Senators called Priscilla Owen ‘extreme’ simply because she voted to uphold a parental involvement law before a minor daughter can have an abortion.”

Both sides of the political isle understand that these debates are a rehearsal for the ultimate battle for filling vacancies on the US Supreme Court. As a result of this closed-door deal, solid and qualified judicial nominees to our nation’s highest court remain at a high risk for being held hostage by a minority of the Senate.
