If passed, the so-called Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA) will eliminate any laws protecting unborn babies and their mothers and require the legalization of abortion-on-demand for any reason through all 9 months of pregnancy in all 50 states. In elevating abortion to a fundamental right, FOCA poses an undeniable and irreparable danger to common-sense laws supported by a majority of Americans.
Barack Obama promised an audience of pro-abortion activists at Planned Parenthood’s July 17, 2007 Action Fund gathering that “The first thing I’d do as president is sign the Freedom of Choice Act.”
If passed by Congress, this would mean:
Laws requiring that you be notified before your underage daughter could have a surgical abortion would be done away with.
Requirements to first inform women of the physical and psychological dangers of abortion would be gone.
Protective laws that have reduced the number of abortions to all-time lows since the legalization of abortion and saved countless lives would be eliminated.
Among the more than 550 federal and state laws that FOCA would nullify are:
Taxpayer funding of abortion-on-demand will return.
Pro-life doctors, medical personnel and hospitals may be forced to participate in the killing of unborn babies.
Restrictions on insurance coverage for abortion for federal employees.
Waiting periods.
Health and safety regulations for abortion facilities.
