This Father’s Day has new meaning in our home because today I’m with my wife, attending her father’s funeral. As with most people, it’s hard to imagine life without a parent, and Father’s Day magnifies their absence even more. Of course we have the joy of knowing he’s celebrating Father’s Day in the presence of our Heavenly Father and at the side of his earthly father who died before him. I can’t imagine a better way to spend it. Still, the pain of a permanent absence this side of heaven is a heavy burden to bear — especially because we hold all innocent human life sacred from womb to tomb. If your dad is with you, or within distance of a phone call, reach out to him. Tell your dad you love him, and cherish the time you have together. And to all of the fathers our there, Happy Father’s Day!
