A Hair Appointment for Life
Its been such an encouraging week for us pro-lifers that I just couldnt wait to share a very special story with you. Arnold Culbreath, our director of Urban Outreach, recently joined some very good pro-life friends for a unique opportunity. Along with Alveda King, Dean Nelson, and Christina Martin-director of Bound4Life Atlanta, they helped in launching an innovative approach of communicating the pro-life message to the black community.

Participating in whats dubbed as the Samson Projectnamed after the Bibles strong, long-haired Nazirite and led by Catherine Davisthese black pro-lifers set up shop at the Brothers Int. Hair show in Atlanta, Georgia last weekend. In the thick of hair dressing supplies galore, and under a banner reading Life Talks, their mission was to recruit barbers and hairstylists to discuss abortions tragic impact on their communities with clients.
In the black community, barber shops and hair salons are legendary for being the hub of exchanging information. Its a system of communication that remains hugely effective even after the creation of the Internet, emails and texting.
During their time at the show, organizers handed out folders detailing the disproportionately high abortion rates for black women, a copy of the documentary MAAFA 21 that visually tells the story of these statistics in 21st century America, and a window decal signaling the willingness of these barbers and hairdressers to talk about this vital issue.
Over the course of three days, and due to the faithful efforts of these pro-lifers to band together, over 1,000 attendees committed to talking about abortions devastating impact to clients who come into their neighborhood shops.
The truth of abortion in the black community rang in some fresh new ears as wellmany hearing for the first time of this #1 killer. Still others had not realized the sheer evil of abortion until talking with someone from the Samson Project.
With new ambassadors joining our cause of hope by being willing to take the pro-life message into their shops, you can be assured that this conversation isnt going away any time soon. Its just one example how true change starts in local neighborhoods with people just like you.
One haircut or hairdo at a time, hearts and minds will inevitably be changed to cut abortions grip on the black community.
